My Love, Don’t Cross That River

Director Moyoung Jin

South Korea, 2014, 86 min

In Korean with English subtitles

Sponsor: The Korean Association of Charlotte

Introduction by Giseung Lee, UNC Charlotte.

An intimate portrait of an elderly couple nearing the end of life, MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER is as delicate as it is raw. Observing this fragile couple in their South Korean home, director Moyoung Jin’s camera acts as a fly-on-the-wall, capturing a deep love painted through simple acts of affection from a good-natured leaf fight to a gentle caress of the cheek. No film-making tricks are necessary, as the honest and tender feelings emoted by this husband and wife are all that’s needed to tell this story of true love.

Reviews:

“…gentle, elegant and genuinely moving…MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER is a wonderful documentary that tells a story of [undying] love.”
– Hugo Ozman, Twitch Film Sydney

“Go and see MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER: if, by its ending, it hasn’t moved you to your core, you have an invulnerable heart.”
– Andrew Blackie, Film Ink Australia
