Val (Regina Casé) moved to São Paulo to pursue a better life, leaving her daughter, Jéssica (Camila Márdila) in Pernambuco. Val works as a maid for a high-class family’s household where she lives, in a separate room. All the unspoken rules that drew a separation line between the employers and the employee seemed to work smoothly until Jéssica travels to São Paulo to pursue higher education. Jéssica’s arrival incites a discussion on race, class, privileges and social inequalities in Brazil.
